[ʃæu̯'lɛi̯], deutsch Schaulen, früher russisch Schạwli, Šạvli [ʃ-], Stadt im Norden Litauens, 110-130 m über dem Meeresspiegel, am Ostrand der Schamaiter Höhen, 146 600 Einwohner; PH, Aušra-Heimatmuseum; Nahrungsmittelindustrie, Bau von Fahrrädern, Mopeds, Elektromotoren, Fernsehgeräten, Werkzeugmaschinen und Datenverarbeitungsanlagen, Leichtindustrie; Freihandelszone, Verkehrsknotenpunkt, bei Schaulen einer der größten internationalen Flughäfen des Baltikums.
 
Bei Saule, das wohl mit dem damaligen Schaulen (heute Šiauliai) identisch ist, erlitt der Schwertbrüderorden 1236 eine schwere Niederlage gegen die Litauer.
